The Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple is considered one of the holiest Vishnu temples in India.

Kerala has plenty to offer the world. However, what is truly unique about the God’s Own Country are the festivals it boast of. Across this beautiful land, there are many festivals observed and celebrated by the people with great joy and grandeur. Among the many temples in Ernakulam district, the Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple in Tripunithura stands out, for its divine sacredness and the grand Vrishchikolsavam – the annual festival held in the temple.

The Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple is considered one of the holiest Vishnu temples in India. The deity is in the form of “Santhanagopalamoorthi” and is is believed that prayers offered here will bless childless couples with kids. Vrishchikolsavam is the main festival of the temple and one of the biggest galas of its kind in Kerala. The seven-day festival is when Tripunithura celebrates itself. The entire town gets drenched in the festive mood. 15 caparisoned elephants line up in a ritual called Ezhunnallippu, giving the night a golden twist. There will be traditional Kerala percussion performances including Melam, Panchavadyam, Thayambaka, Madhalapattu, Kombu Pattu and Kuzhal Pattu. The spectators are treated to a number of classical Carnatic music performances every day of the festival. The whole town turns in to a big market place where festival special merchandises and delicacies will be on sale.
